Write for Us

Got bedtime stories? Write them here.

The 47th glass of water. The stuffed animal that must be found at 9:13 PM. The negotiations that would humble a diplomat.

If you write about parenting — the funny, the hard, the “is this normal?” — we’d love your voice on Sleep Notes, our blog for parents of little kids who are done dreading bedtime.

We’re Cushla, a small brand building bedtime-comfort stuff for kids (our first product, a card game called the Wind-Down Deck, launches Christmas 2026). We’re early. Our audience is small but real — parents in the thick of it who want someone who gets it, not another lecture.

What you get

  • An author bio with a backlink. Your name, a few lines about you, and a link to your site or newsletter on every post. Headshot optional — happy to include one if you send it.
  • A contributor badge for your own site, linking back to your post.
  • We’ll share your post on our Pinterest and Instagram and tag you. Honest note: our socials are small right now, so the real value here is the backlink and getting in early while we’re growing.
  • A reply within 7 days. Every pitch gets an answer. No black holes.
  • Your words stay your words. We fix typos, that's about it. Our first guest post, from a retired nurse and grandmother of three, went up exactly as she wrote it.
  • A share kit when your post goes live. We send you the link, a ready-made graphic, and a suggested caption, so sharing it takes two minutes, not twenty.
  • A post back, if you want one. Jon, our founder and a dad of three, will happily write a dad-perspective guest post for your blog in return.
  • Founding contributor perks. Write for us before our Christmas 2026 launch and you're a founding contributor. Once the Wind-Down Deck is out, founding contributors get one for their family, or a giveaway copy for their readers — their pick.

We don’t pay for posts — we’re a startup. If that ever changes, contributors hear first.

What we’re looking for

The good stuff: bedtime battles and breakthroughs, toddler behavior decoded with humor, sleep science in plain language, calming ideas that actually work, personal essays about the night everything went wrong (or finally went right).

Not for us: generic advice anyone could’ve written, product pitches dressed up as articles, or anything already published somewhere else.

How it should sound: like you’re texting your smartest parent friend at 10 PM. Warm, honest, a little funny. Real stories about real kids — if it reads like it could be about anyone’s kid, it’s a no.

The details

  • Not a “writer”? Doesn't matter. Bullet points, a rough draft, even voice notes — send what you've got and we'll shape it together, in your voice.
  • 800–1,500 words, original only (not on your blog or anywhere else)
  • Short paragraphs, subheadings, at least one moment that makes a tired parent laugh or exhale
  • Send a 2–3 sentence bio and one link with your pitch (headshot if you want one shown)

How to pitch

Email hello@cushla.ca with the subject “Pitch: [your headline]”. Include:

  1. A headline or two
  2. Two or three sentences on what the piece is about
  3. A link to something you’ve written before

That’s it. We’ll reply within 7 days.
